Photos: Farmer’s Breakfast

October 23, 2008

This past weekend we had the joy of a visit from our friends Kim, Kurt, and Maddie from Portland, Oregon. We get together with them about once a year, and this time they came out to Ohio to see our new son Will. On the last day of their visit, Kim made breakfast for everyone. She made a delicious, hearty meal called a Farmer’s Breakfast. I’ve had some variations on this, but nothing quite like it.

The Farmer’s Breakfast is made of layers of turkey sausage, a pancake, a fried egg, another pancake, all covered with an apple compote (apples, cider, and maple syrup, I believe). It was awesome. Such a terrific blend of flavors. Normally I wouldn’t think to mix the sweet fruit and pancakes with the savory egg and sausage, but they went surprisingly well together.

I can see why it’s called a Farmer’s Breakfast – it fills you up and sets you on your way! Thanks to Kim for sharing this with us!
