We were pretty primed to like the Early Bird food truck when it opened last fall. We’re friends with the owner Libby, and have enjoyed her cupcakes, donuts and cakes over the years. The Early Bird is an extension of Four & Twenty Bake Shop, her bakery from which she sold at farmers markets over the years.

Early Bird is pretty straightforward in its menu: donuts and coffee. The donuts are beignet-style, meaning they’re rectangular, light and cakey. You can order them plain (dusted with powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar) or filled with things like Nutella, vanilla custard, raspberry, strawberry, lemon, and so on. Keep an eye on Facebook to see what flavors they’re featuring.

The trailer is parked right along Indianola, just north of Lane Avenue, in front of Indianola Church of Christ. If you’re driving, you can park along Lane Ave. or just behind the church.

I highly recommend the filled beignets. I mean… if you have the option to add Nutella, why not? That’s just common sense.

The beignets’ texture is spot-on: soft and cakey without getting chewy. They serve One Line beans, so between a mug of their coffee and a couple beignets, you’re all set for a snack!
