We first discovered The Eagle last year on a trip to Cincinnati. The Over-the-Rhine fried chicken spot had come recommended by several friends, and we snuck in there after a day of exploring museums and breweries and shops. The place was small and cozy, and the meal was memorable. So imagine my delight when they announced they’d be opening a location in Short North. We were there the first night.
Beer lovers will find a pretty extensive draft list, and cocktail lovers will find things like a spicy Bloody Mary or their gigantic bourbon punch.
I appreciate that The Eagle largely focuses on doing one thing and doing it very well: fried chicken. The menu features 1/4, 1/2, and whole chickens. You can order the 1/4 chickens in white or dark meat. Otherwise, the menu includes snacks, sandwiches, sides, plus soups/salads.
We’ve loved going as a group and ordering a full chicken and a bunch of sides. The chicken is wonderfully juicy, with a crispy and well-seasoned skin. It’s served with a spicy hot honey. I like drizzling some of it, but honestly the chicken shines on its own. Just what I crave.
The sides are all winners, too, from creamy mashed potatoes to smoky collard greens to fries to mashed potatoes with horseradish.
I’m pretty much always craving fried chicken, and The Eagle consistently lands near the top of my list. Again, I love that they focus on doing one thing really well, and if you haven’t been yet, it’s time to check them out.
