Don’t Skip Dinner With SkipTheDishes

February 20, 2017

There are plenty of food delivery services around the city these days, and recently we were invited to try out SkipTheDishes. SkipTheDishes partners with local restaurants that might not offer delivery on their own, and brings your meal straight to your home or work. You order online, even set the delivery window, and then follow live updates online as your food heads your way. We were in the mood for Indian cuisine the night we ordered in, so when we scrolled through the list and found New India, our decision was made.

I placed the order before New India opened, but I timed it to arrive in time in for dinner. Pro-tip: if a restaurant appears unavailable because they’re currently closed, adjust your delivery time to see if the restaurant will be open then. I set our delivery time to 5:15-5:45 p.m. (they open at 5 for dinner) and we were good to go.

Ordering is fairly simple, and the site will track your total so you know how much it’ll cost. There’s a delivery charge that ranges from $3.99-5.99, depending on the restaurant, and you can tip your driver, too. Once things are rolling, you can watch the progress of your order on a map, and I got a text when the driver was a couple minutes away. The boys enjoyed watching the car move on the map as it went first to New India and then to our house.

We ordered vegetable samosas (which were giant), chicken pakora, garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, baingan bhartha (a favorite eggplant dish of ours), and chicken makhani.

It arrived piping hot and packaged very nicely. The portions were big enough that we got a couple meals of leftovers out of it.

We loved the chicken makhani (very buttery) and the garlic naan in particular.
