Yes, I am one to double down on my coffee. In Gahanna to conduct an interview, I stopped by Blank Slate Coffee in their gleaming Airstream. I enjoyed a lovely cortado there, but needed a place to sit and work for a bit, so I snuck across the street to Upper Cup Coffee.

This is Upper Cup’s second location. The first is on Parsons Avenue in Olde Towne East (read about it here!), where owner Mike Habte roasts coffee and his team hand-pulls espresso. They expanded to the Gahanna shop in the past year. Creekside has had some turnover when it comes to coffee shops, including iterations like Crazy Goat and Three Creeks Coffee, so it’s nice to see two great vendors setting up.

The Gahanna shop doesn’t have quite as much character as the Olde Towne East one, although it’s hard to beat wood floors, brick walls, and a small roaster in the middle of the space. Still, there’s a good collection of tables spread throughout, and local artwork on the walls. The place was mostly full when I visited.

Like more and more shops these days, Upper Cup’s menu spans both second and third wave coffee offerings, which means you have pour-overs, cortados, and cappuccinos alongside flavored lattes and sweeter iced drinks. The menu also features a small collection of sandwiches.

Also, not to be missed: DONUTS!

I didn’t think to ask, but I believe they’re made in-house.

The tiny donuts include colorful icings, chocolate chips, cereals, crushed-up cookies, and other fun toppings.

I enjoyed a donut with Fruity Pebbles (guilty pleasure cereal) and a pour-over. Decent donut, great coffee.
I hope this shop continues to thrive! It’s nice being able to find great coffee in every corner of the city.
