I’ve said before that wherever there are donuts, we will find them.

On our visit to Portland, we finally connected with Blue Star Donuts, and now thanks to our friend dear Kim, we discovered the adorable Pip’s Original Doughnuts as well.

The technical name is Pip’s Original Doughnuts & Chai, which tells you everything you need to know about the place. Decked out all in natural colors, Pip’s features a selection of tiny donuts all fried to order, and paired with a small menu of coffee and chai.

We ordered two plates of mixed donuts for our band of five.

I can’t even remember all the flavors, but there were chocolate and Nutella and bacon. The base donut is wonderfully soft, crispy around the outside, and not too sweet.

Pip’s offers full coffee service, so I enjoyed an autumn spiced latte. It indeed tasted like a cool autumn day.

They make several different types of chai, and you can sample them all – from the sweet to the mild to the spicy – with a chai flight!

The cafe features two rooms, and while we lucked out with a quiet afternoon, we’ve heard tales of lines out the door.

And with good reason! Between the donuts, the coffee, and the chai, Pip’s is a heart- and stomach-warming spot.
