5 Restaurants to Try This Month: January 2023

January 5, 2023

Want to support local restaurants? Curious about new openings or under-the-radar finds? Here are five restaurants I’m suggesting you try this month!

1. Sushi Factory

Tucked down a side street just south of Polaris, the family-run Sushi Factory has quickly become one of our favorites for sushi. Service is always friendly, and while the vast menu takes a little time to navigate, we haven’t had a bad bite. Just for fun, get one of the sushi towers!

2. La Plaza Tapatia

This west side Mexican supermarket, bakery, and restaurant relocated to a gorgeous new location last year. It’s great for grocery shopping, picking up sweets like candy and paletas, grabbing coffee, and tasting prepared foods you can take with you or eat there: chilaquiles, loads of ceviches, fresh salsas, tamales, you name it. Don’t miss the bakery aisle!

3. Maple Street Biscuit Co.

This chain, which originated in Jacksonville, Florida, just opened its first Ohio location outside Polaris. The menu is chock full of creative interpretations of Southern comfort food: waffles, chicken tenders, biscuit sandwiches drenched in sausage gravy.

Columbus enjoys a lot of great sandwiches, and the gang from Buck City just started popping up at East Market Tuesdays through Sundays. Their towering sandwiches come with names like The Classy Lady, The Peggy Sue, The Southern Belle.
