5 Restaurants to Try This Month: February 2023

February 2, 2023

Want to support local restaurants? Curious about new openings or under-the-radar finds? Here are five restaurants I’m suggesting you try this month!

1. Hoyo’s Kitchen

Columbus has some great Somali eateries, but Hoyo’s Kitchen is one of the best. The family-run stall operates out of both North Market locations. They let you build your own bowls with rice, lentils, chicken, beef, veggies, and spongy injera. It’s a beautifully colorful and flavorful meal.

Hoyo’s Kitchen
59 Spruce St. (Downtown) & 6750 Longshore St. (Dublin)

2. Torchy’s Tacos

The Austin-based Torchy’s Tacos is just beginning to step into Central Ohio, and we welcome it wholeheartedly. We’ve made multiple visits to its Polaris store for rich queso with chorizo, hearty salsas, nicely constructed tacos, and breakfast tacos loaded with brisket. They’re adding spots in Dublin and Gahanna, too!

Columbus, OH 43240

3. Over the Counter

Even though we live close to Over the Counter, we take it for granted. Nodding to the building’s history as an old pharmacy, the bar and restaurant has the cure for what ails you: good company, plenty of drinks, weekend brunch, and hearty lunches and dinners like reubens, fish and chips, burgers, fried bologna sandwiches, fried pickles!

Over the Counter
5596 N. High St.
Worthington, OH 43085

4. Off Center Pub & Patio

Tucked down a side street, in an unassuming, low-ceilinged space, Off Center Pub & Patio in Hilliard has long been known for their pizzas. Now the new owners have kept the pizzas and improved on them with the introduction of Puerto Rican dishes. We got a taste during a Columbus Food Adventures party and were impressed. Try the tostones, tostones relleños, or the piñon pizza with plantains!

Hilliard, OH 43026

5. Boni at Budd

Boni at Budd is an offshoot of the great Filipino eatery Bonifacio. The market stall features a new menu of Filipino street foods, like chicken adobo or pork belly bowls, different meats on skewers, and lumpia spring rolls.

1086 N. Fourth St. (Budd Dairy Food Hall)
Columbus, OH 43201
