After years as a truck, a second floor pop-up in the Brewery District, and a stall at North Market, Preston’s Burgers has landed its own brick and mortar in Clintonville! They’ve snagged a spot in the strip that includes Combustion Brewery and Condado, in the former Buddha Bowl/Blunch storefront.
The space features a bar and a collection of tables, with deep purple walls and artwork from Adam Brouillette. Guests order at the counter or using the QR code on their table.
Regulars at Preston’s will recognize all the old favorites plus a couple new additions: burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, chicken tenders/nuggets/wings, sides like fries and mac & cheese, and their popular puddings.
The benefit of Preston’s having their own location is their full license to offer beer, wine, and cocktails to go with your burgers and fried chicken.
The photos don’t do any of these justice, but here are a few highlights! If it’s your first time, go for the Classic. You can order them with single or double patties. This shows what Preston’s does best: simply but expertly constructed smashburgers. I still rate them as the best in the city.
But don’t sleep on the Spicy Boi. This might be my new favorite: smashburger patties, pimento cheese, shaved onion, house pickles, and a sweet/spicy sambal jam.
Their fried chicken sandwiches shouldn’t be ignored either. They’re crispy and well-seasoned. There’s the standard chicken sandwich and zestier dipped chicken or mala chicken versions.
There are plenty of vegetarian options (and gluten free buns!) available at Preston’s, and they don’t shirk from portions or flavors. The crispy lion’s mane mushroom sandwich is loaded with pickled onion and shredded cabbage. They also feature fried mushroom nuggets!
And there are easy-to-love sides like cheesy fries and those often elusive fried pimento cheese dumplings.
Their fried chicken nuggets and tenders are also a great deal. They’re tender, juicy, and wonderfully seasoned. One of the unsung heroes at Preston’s.
Preston’s is currently open Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; and Sunday from 4-7:30 p.m.
