Black Kahawa Coffee pops up on the Scioto Mile Fridays this summer

June 14, 2023

Black Kahawa, a Columbus coffee roaster that features East African coffees, has begun popping up on the Scioto Mile every Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. this summer!

The roaster grew out of owner Douglas Buckley’s time as a missionary in Dar es Salam, Tanzania, where he worked with locals to learn to roast and sell coffee. He imports his beans from specific farms in that region. You can read more about Buckley in my Columbus Monthly piece “Seek Out Beans from These Four Columbus-Based, Small-Batch Roasters.”

Black Kahawa’s cart has been popping up at events all round the city, selling hot coffee, cold brew, and beans, but for this summer they’ll be consistently at The Prow, the little outcropping in the center of the Scioto Mile on the bank of the river.

While you’re there, you can pick up bags of their roasts, too!

I’ve enjoyed every drink I’ve had from Black Kahawa, but their can’t-miss beverage is the cold brew with their Zanzibar spice blend. It’s rich and lightly sweet – the perfect summer drink.

Find Black Kahawa Fridays this summer from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on The Prow at the Scioto Mile (where W. Town St. ends at S. Civic Center Dr.)
