Want to support local restaurants? Curious about new openings or under-the-radar finds? Here are five restaurants I’m suggesting you try this month!

1. Brekkie Shack
Brekkie Shack in Grandview Yard serves up a creative breakfast that keeps you coming back again and again. Think varieties of avocado toast, breakfast burritos, pancakes, French toast, hash, fresh pastries, a full coffee bar. My personal favorite is their All The Feels Breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon, cheddar, brussel sprouts, and a maple sauce.

2. Los Potosinos
The beloved Los Potosinos taco truck, one of the OGs of Columbus’ taco truck scene, recently kicked back into action. They’ve mostly been set up once again in the King-Lincoln Bronzeville neighborhood, but they make forays to the west side as well. You can’t go wrong with much of their menu, but the real draw is the pollo al carbon: wonderfully tender grilled chicken served on a platter with rice, beans, and a small salad.

Columbus, OH 43203

3. Watershed Kitchen & Bar
I’d recommend Watershed Kitchen & Bar – the dining extension of Watershed Distillery in Grandview – any time of year. The cocktail program is one of the best in town and the kitchen team produces a three-part menu that playfully explores Midwestern staples. But I bring them up now because they launched a new happy hour recently that’s a stellar deal: 1/2 off snacks and share-ables (level 1 on their menu) as well as 1/2 off cocktails. It’s available at the seated and standing bars Monday-Thursday, 5-6 p.m. and Friday, 4-6 p.m.

4. Goodale Station
Goodale Station sits atop the Canopy By Hilton hotel across from the Convention Center. It would be easy for a hotel restaurant to phone it in – they have a ready-built clientele – but under the leadership of chef Jonathan Olson (formerly of The Keep), Goodale Station produces a stellar lineup of cocktails, a handsome whiskey menu, and creative bites that are good for a full meal or an elevated night of drinks. And I do mean elevated: sitting at 12 stories, Goodale Station offers unique views of downtown Columbus, the Arena District, and the Short North.

Columbus, OH 43215

5. Hereinafter Cocktail Tavern
In June I had the pleasure of writing about the new Hereinafter Cocktail Tavern in Millersport for Columbus Monthly. The upscale but very approachable cocktail bar and restaurant makes its home in the former Millersport VFW, at the western edge of Buckeye Lake. Owner Ben Long and his team really bring their A-game: house-made ice, great cocktails, an accomplished menu with Southern inspiration, a retail wine shop, and new outdoor cocktail garden. Plenty of reasons to visit this summer!
