Columbus is already a strong coffee city, but over recent months we’ve seen a steady uptick of new coffee shops. Here are eight new coffee shops in and around Columbus!

1. Royal Flamingo Debuts Coffee Shop Inside a Cocktail Bar
Royal Flamingo Coffee has been roasting for the past couple years, going so far as to pick up awards nationally and internationally. Now they finally have their own space inside I Like It Like That cocktail bar during the daytime hours. The bar is part of Natalie’s, accessible off the patio. At Royal Flamingo’s shop you can sample unique roasts in everything from batch brews to espresso to cold brew.

2. Qahwah House Brings Yemeni Roasts Downtown
Central Ohio is welcoming a number of Yemeni coffee houses these days, including Finjin Cafe and Qamaria Yemeni Coffee’s locations in Hilliard and in Lewis Center. And recently Qahwah Coffee joined downtown Columbus with a beautifully decorated space and a full menu of traditional Yemeni coffees and snacks.

3. Honey Cup Coffee Finds a Permanent Home
Honey Cup started out as a trailer at the corner of Hudson and Summit in 2021 before migrating indoors to Rambling House music bar just down the road. In recent weeks they finally moved into their own storefront on Summit just south of Hudson, converting a long, narrow space into a cozy shop with all their signature drinks.

4. Standardized Brewing Brings Coffee and Beer to Lewis Center
Standardized Brewing opened in the Evans Farm development in Lewis Center, an interesting new neighborhood that includes a small “downtown” with shops and apartments. At the front corner is the brewery, which opens early every day with a full coffee bar, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches.

5. Black Kahawa Opens Patio at Broad and High
Similar to Royal Flamingo, Black Kahawa has been a roaming roaster for a few years. They focus on East African coffees, and have been operating a trailer where they serve up espresso drinks, batch brews, and a delicious cold brew. Now they’ve parked the trailer on the northeast corner of Broad and High while they build out a shop there.

6. Nocterra Brewing Opens Early with Jennings Java
I love breweries and cocktail bars that open early as coffee shops (looking at you, Royal Flamingo, Standardized Brewing, and Olentangy River Brewing!), and when Nocterra opened its new Audubon location, they wisely added early morning hours with a full coffee bar featuring Jennings Java. They have plenty of space, so it’ll be a great place to work, meet, or enjoy a quiet moment!

7. Mission Coffee Returns to the Short North
This week Mission Coffee’s new(ish) owners brought the shop back to its original space in the Short North. They soft opened with a new menu as they build out the space on Price Avenue, just off High Street. For now it seems like it will be a companion to their coffee shop and roastery on South High Street.

Crimson is a brand of modern coffee shops under Crimson Cup Coffee, debuting its first store at Easton in 2020. In late spring they added a second store, this one inside a brightly lit corner room at the Newman Center near Ohio State’s campus.
