Do You Love Club 185 in German Village? Then Stay the Night!

February 10, 2026

I don’t talk about it often enough, but Club 185 in German Village is one of my favorite hangouts. I just love the approachable neighborhood vibe, the long bar with big mirrors and colorful lights, the brick walls, the inexpensive and easy-to-love food and drink. If I lived any closer, this would be my local bar.

Club 185 has sat at the corner of Livingston and Mohawk, on the northern border of German Village, since 1954. And as if there isn’t plenty of reason to love the local institution, did you know you can stay there? Keep scrolling down to learn more!

First things first, a couple of my favorites from the menu (and I’m barely scratching the surface). I love the simple Old Fashioned.

And if it’s your first time, give the Double 185 Cheeseburger a spin, maybe with a Nathan’s Famous All-Beef hot dog on the side.

The burger is nothing fancy, but it’s comforting in the way food at a neighborhood bar should be.

For those who miss the bygone Little Palace (RIP), you can find their signature crispy chicken sandwich on the 185 menu!

Sleeper hit of the menu for me: the quesadilla with chicken. It’s listed as an appetizer but it’s big enough for a full meal.

And if you’re really sold on the space, or you have friends and family visiting town, you can take advantage of Club 185’s flats, located upstairs and bookable through AirBnb!

They feature two flats, the Mohawk and the Livingston; I recently stayed overnight in the Livingston Flat for a little writing retreat.

The space was very comfortable and nicely furnished, with a king bed, a living room, full kitchen, and full bathroom.

And let me tell you: it was awfully nice to be able to sneak downstairs for a Club 185 burger and an Old Fashioned! Keep in mind that the bar stays open late, so it can be a little noisy, but they provide a white noise machine and ear plugs. (Although I didn’t need them – it wasn’t that bad.)

Club 185 is open Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 5 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. (the kitchen closes at midnight every night). Happy hour is Monday-Friday, 4-7 p.m.
