Three To Try: Beyond Breakfast

October 21, 2016

This was a week of Beyond Breakfast posts, looking first at the family-style kamayan at Bonifacio and then at Hawaiian fish salads from Hai Poke. So that had me thinking about other favorite Beyond Breakfast spots. Many of these are perfect for warming up during colder weather.

1. Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant – One of our favorite foods is Ethiopian. Similar to the Filipino kamayan, a typical Ethiopian meal is eaten family-style and with your hands. In addition to being some of the richest, most flavorful, and most colorful food I’ve ever had, I love the reminder that a meal is meant as a gathering point.

2. Da Levee – For as much as I crave Da Levee all. the. time. it’s amazing I’m not there more frequently. Crawfish etouffee, jambalaya, gumbo, and my favorite, the po’rittos.

3. Huong Vietnamese – With the weather turning cooler, we’re absolutely thinking of hot soups, and Huong’s pho is some of the best in town. Pair that with a banh mi, the savory banh xeo crepes, and some strong Vietnamese coffee, and you’re set.
