You know a coffee shop’s reputation is strong when friends from far away comment on Instagram photos, expressing their love for a particular shop. Such has always been the case for Madcap Coffee. Even though it’s in my hometown of Grand Rapids, I first heard rave reviews from friends in Columbus, and ever since our first stop to their original store downtown, we’ve made it a regular part of our GR visits.

So we’re of course pleased that a new location has opened up inside the Downtown Market, replacing another coffee shop there. During our last trip to GR we made two stops at the new Madcap.

They’ve carried over their branding very well to the new space.

And we enjoyed a cortado…

…as well as a cappuccino, a cafe miel, and hot chocolate.

Bonus: if you’re stopping by Madcap, make it the starting point for exploring the Downtown Market. There are pastries and sandwiches and tacos and juices and so much more to find, and they hold events inside and out.

Double Bonus: we discovered that Madcap is, in fact, opening a third location in Grand Rapids, this one connected to their roasting and training facility on East Fulton Street. We caught their soft opening, and they said their grand opening is Friday, June 2.
