Want to support local restaurants? Curious about new openings or under-the-radar finds? Here are five restaurants I’m suggesting you try this month!

1. Buckeye Pho
Even in the summer months we crave hot noodle soups like pho. Buckeye Pho on Bethel Road has been a go-to for many years. The service is always kind and welcoming, the restaurant space clean and comfortable. Their signature pho is rich and complex, available in a variety of combinations. But don’t miss their spring and summer rolls, and the giant banh mi sandwiches as well.

2. Gemüt Biergarten
Gemüt Biergarten makes its home in an 1896 fire station in Olde Towne East. They’ve brought the structure back to life with beautiful stained glass windows, a beer hall lined with communal tables, and spacious front and back patios. Gemüt’s roster of German beers has earned awards already, but their beers are matched by the expert food menu with pretzels, sandwiches, schnitzel, flatbreads, and more.

3. Rooh
This Short North eatery offers a progressive, modern take on Indian fare. It’s continually impressed us since it first opened, both for the thoughtful presentation of the food and the delightful cocktails. Try the naan, the kulchas, the fried cauliflower, the butter chicken. The drink menu is built around the practice of ayurveda and the six tastes presented in it – sweet, salty, astringent, bitter, pungent, and sour – making this a great spot for both dinner and drinks.

4. Novella Osteria
Since opening in late 2020, Novella Osteria has earned accolades for its scratch-made Italian fare from its cozy digs in Powell, including a nod in 2021 for Columbus Monthly‘s Best New Restaurants. Chef and owner Matthew Phelan has crafted a menu of both signature and seasonal favorites that will keep you coming back again and again.

5. Tula Taqueria
The family-run Tula Taqueria has been a favorite of ours for Cali-Mexican dishes. They feature all the classics – tacos, burritos, quesadillas, taquitos, chimichangas – but earn bonus points for breakfast items scattered throughout, like a breakfast torta, huevo con chorizo, breakfast tacos or burritos.
