Have Coffee in a Victorian-Era Bathroom at Attendant in London

May 16, 2023

We enjoyed great coffee and pastries throughout London, notably Fortitude Bakehouse, but one of our favorite stops was Attendant Coffee Roaster’s location in Fitzrovia. Why was it on our radar? Because their Fitzrovia location can be found… underground in a Victorian-era toilet!

To find Attendant, look for the old iron structure in the middle of the street!

The underground operation small is tight but cozy, with a small kitchen plus a few tables and counter seats.

They’ve retained some of the more… er… charming elements of the Victorian toilet, including a new marble counter built through the old urinals, plus white and green wall tiles, original flooring, old water tanks, and the like.

Even though the space is obviously an old toilet, it doesn’t feel dank or gross. It’s just plain fun.

We lucked out with a very short wait for a corner table.

Attendant’s menu is small but straightforward: pastries, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, tea.

There’s avocado toast with smoked salmon and an egg.

A simple breakfast sandwich with bacon and egg.

While you eat, there are plenty of fascinating details to take in.

Attendant is currently open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They don’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait if it’s busy.

And while it’s located in an old restroom… Attendant doesn’t have its own facilities. They recommend using the pub next door.
