Friday Food Bites: Thunderwing replacing Sideswipe Brewing, Bitty & Beau’s Coffee coming

There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:

  • This week Columbus Underground shared the news and an interview with the owner of the upcoming Thunderwing Brewing, the brewery that will replace Sideswipe Brewing when it closes at the end of the month. Thunderwing is aiming for a fall opening; you can read more about them on their website.
  • Speaking of Sideswipe Brewing… the brewery, which is set to close on July 30, will host a Peace Out Party this Saturday, July 22 from 1-10 p.m.
  • Bitty & Beau’s Coffee, a North Carolina-based coffee shop chain that employs people with intellectual and development disabilities, announced this week that they’re opening a location in Columbus. An exact location and timeline haven’t been announced yet.
  • Sparano’s Pizza has reopened in its new location at 3947 W. Broad St.
  • (614) Magazine‘s Summer Restaurant Week is coming July 24-29. More than 150 local restaurants will be offering specialty menus; the week benefits the Family Mentor Foundation.
  • Oshio Station downtown reopened this week after a month’s closure.
  • Next week Tuesday, July 25 from 4-10 p.m. Combustion Brewing will be hosting a Christmas in July event at both its Pickerington and Clintonville locations. The event features the release of the Nice Christmas Ale and Naughty triple IPA.
  • This week multiple outlets reported that Powell’s Liberty Tavern is expanding with new locations at Polaris and in Grove City.
  • The French bakery chain Le Macaron is coming soon to Columbus, with a location in the Short North.
  • Noble Cut Distillery announced that it has created two new cellos for Cameron Mitchell’s newly opened Valentina’s Italian restaurant: a 60-proof limoncello and a melon basil cello.
  • Watershed Distillery’s Four Peel Fest is this Saturday, July 22, with plenty of Four Peel gin, live music, food trucks, and more fun.
  • Finally, the Ohio State Fair opens next week Wednesday, July 26 and runs through Aug. 6, bringing all your favorite fair foods.
