There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:
- This week Lion Cub’s Cookies announced that it will be adding a second shop at 7105 N. High St. in Worthington, set to open sometime in early 2024. Lion Cub’s started as a cookie delivery service during the pandemic before opening their first brick and mortar in Grandview in 2021.
- Lion Cub’s future Worthington home, the Worthington Gateway, has been busy with openings and announcements. Just recently Maple Street Biscuits and Tropical Smoothie Cafe opened, and locations of Five Guys and Huey Magoo’s are coming, too.
- Habibi Grill is set to debut on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. The Lebanese and Mediterranean eatery is located at 1131 N. Fourth St. in Italian Village (next to Seventh Son Brewing and Duecento).
- Cameron Mitchell’s latest restaurant is set to debut on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 595 S. Third St. in German Village (former site of G. Michael’s). Appropriately named Cento, the Italian eatery is Mitchell’s 100th eatery overall. (Read my interview with Mitchell in the July/August Ohio Magazine.)
- This week we saw a shakeup of vendors at the East Market. The Butcher & Grocer announced on Tuesday that it had closed its market restaurant immediately, and that the retail shop would close permanently on Sunday, Aug. 20. (Everything there is currently 50% off.) Butcher & Grocer’s Grandview shop is unaffected. East Market moved quickly to announce new vendors, including Urban Gourmet Burgers & Wings, Monster Baby Donuts, and the permanent return of Buck City Sammies.
- In other market news, Center Street Market in Hilliard announced that Two Step Tacos and Al’s Delicious Popcorn have closed up their stalls. No replacements have been announced yet.
- This Sunday, Aug. 20 is the last day for Colin’s Coffee in Upper Arlington.
- Rodos European Grill, which has renamed itself to Rodos Greek Taverna, soft opened in its new location at 2151 W. Dublin Granville Rd. this week. Rodos recently moved from its original space on Indianola Avenue in Clintonville, which has been taken over by Gyropolis.

- This week Royal Flamingo Coffee took home several awards from Golden Bean North America, the world’s largest roasting competition. This included seven bronzes and most notably a gold for its CM Red Fruits espresso.
- Echo Spirits Distilling Co. hosts its annual tiki takeover Sandbar on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 1-10 p.m. It’ll feature tiki drinks, live music, and a hog roast from Red Rabbit Ramen.
- Wolf’s Ridge Brewing hosts its annual SeptemberFest this weekend, Aug. 18-20, with fair-themed foods, tie-dye shirts, live music, and more.
- The North Market Wine Fest takes place at the Bridge Park location this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18-19.
- Thrive Companies also hosts Go Fourth: A Block Party for All on Sunday, Aug. 20 from noon to 5 p.m. at both Seventh Son Brewing and Budd Dairy Food Hall, with music, activities, food, drink, and much more.
- The Columbus Food Festival returns this weekend, Aug. 19-20, to the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Hilliard.
- Finally, join me for a virtual presentation, A Foodie’s Guide to Columbus, through the Columbus Metropolitan Library next Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. Register for the free event here!
