Friday Food Bites: Kona Craft Kitchen and Woody’s Wing House close, Cobra opens

October 20, 2023

There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:

  • The owners of Kona Craft Kitchen in Bridge Park announced abruptly on Monday that the restaurant has closed after less than two years in business. Columbus Monthly editor Erin Edwards did some digging and found that the restaurant was faced with debt issues.
  • A highly anticipated new late night spot for cocktails and food called Cobra opened this week at 684 S. High St. in German Village. Cobra inhabits a former Panera, which was most well known as The Clarmont for many years. It’s open Wednesdays to Mondays, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.
  • The last location of Woody’s Wing House, at 161 E. Campus View Blvd., closed this week. The site is part of the Crosswoods development and has apparently been earmarked for a new location of Sheetz.
  • Blackbird Kitchen announced this week that it’s launching Blackbird Burrito Co. inside Woodland’s Backyard (where Late Night Slice recently pulled out) on Nov. 1.
  • CoLo Butcher & Deli, a companion to CoLo Oyster Bar at North Market downtown, has started a pop-up serving smashburgers and fries Thursday-Saturday, 11 am. to 4 p.m.
  • The Dispatch reported this week that a new brewery called Species X Beer is coming early next year to the former Platform Beer space downtown.
  • Josh Dalton, owner of Veritas and Speck, announced a new concept, Rosebud’s, that will take over the former Cove, A Seafood Joint space at 15 E. Winter St. in Delaware. No word yet on an exact opening date.
  • A new plant-based cafe called Layered Brew holds its grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 2864 N. High St. in the shared High Street Kitchens space.
  • The Circleville Pumpkin Festival runs through this Saturday, Oct. 21! Head down to Circleville for the annual show featuring all things pumpking-related.
  • The newly opened Eupouria is running a special this Saturday, Oct. 21 during the Ohio State-Penn State game. If Ohio State loses, all drinks purchased during the game are on the house.
  • The next Sunday Fundays in Old Worthington is this Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The theme this month is Spooky Pooch Party.
  • The first-ever German Village Apple Fest is this Sunday, Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Run by the German Village Makers Market, it will feature 70+ vendors, music, activities, food trucks, and apples provided by Lynd Fruit Farm.
