There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:
- This week the owners of Pelino’s Pasta opened a new sandwich and gelato shop in the Short North called Piazza Pelino. Located at 772 N. High St. in the former Piece of Cake storefront, the shop features sandwiches made on their house focaccia and freshly made gelato.
- Toft’s Grand Scoop, an ice cream shop at 1288 W. Fifth Ave. in Grandview, quietly opened this week. Their ice cream is of course drawn from Toft’s Dairy, a heritage Ohio brand that got its start in the early 1900s in Sandusky.
- All three locations of Kroger’s Mix Food Halls closed abruptly within the past couple weeks. The food halls, situated inside the Gahanna, Dublin, and Clintonville Krogers, began opening last November and featured 6-7 different food concepts from which customers could order at kiosks or online.
- Greenhouse Canteen + Bar announced that its Grandview location at 1101 W. Fifth Ave. is temporarily closed. The team shared that it’s undergoing a rebrand and a possible relocation. The canteen originated in Australia and features a plant-based menu.
- After some delays, the new version of Michael’s Goody Boy opened last week in the Short North. Located at 1144 N. High St. in Short North, it operated as a diner for more than 75 years before closing up earlier this year. (Check it out in 2007.)
- Today, Dec. 1, Pure Imagination Chocolatier opens a second location inside Polaris Fashion Place.
- The owner of Koso Korean stall in the East Market announced on Instagram this week that he’s handed over operations to a “very lovely Korean aunty.”
- Multiple sources reported this week that O’Charley’s closed two more Columbus-area locations recently, at 6285 Cleveland Ave. on the northeast side and 1657 Stringtown Rd. in Grove City.
- At 10 a.m. this Saturday, Dec. 2, Watershed Distillery releases the latest in its Fall Finishing Series, a bourbon finished in maple syrup barrels. The bourbon will be available only at the bottle shop.
This week I’m also writing:
- Get Some of Columbus’ Most Creative Flavors at Rose Dough Donuts
- Coffee, Cocktails, Breakfast, and Brunch at The Goat in Gahanna
- Speakeasy Ramen, Springfield (Ohio Magazine)
- Granville, A Charming Holiday Town (Ohio.org)
