Friday Food Bites: Shawnee Station opens, Royal Flamingo opening coffee shop, Land-Grant adding new bar

April 5, 2024

There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:

  • Shawnee Station Kitchen & Taproom, a new upscale brewpub from the owners of Maumee Bay Brewing Co. in Toledo, celebrated its grand opening yesterday at 6058 Glick Rd. The restaurant features Maumee Bay beers, cocktails, and a full menu of sandwiches, starters, entrees, and more. Get a full look at the brewpub here!
  • Royal Flamingo Coffee announced last week that it will be opening a coffee shop inside I Like It Like That, the new cocktail bar next to Natalie’s in Grandview. They’ll open sometime this spring.
  • The owners of Pelino’s Pasta just opened their third venture, an event space called Pelino’s on Pearl. It’s located at 680 N. Pearl St. in the former Tasi Cafe (RIP). The Pelino’s folks just opened Piazza Pelino in the old Piece of Cake storefront last December.
  • Land-Grant Brewing announced a new, smaller taproom called The Extension, coming to the space between Idea Foundry and the Gravity Experience Park. The Extension will feature cocktails, ciders, wines, and experimental Land-Grant brews. It’s set to open sometime this spring.
  • 1801 Tavern is set to open next week Thursday, April 11 at 9721 Sawmill Rd. in Powell, in the former Shorty’s Pizza space.
  • In case you missed the news last week, the new owners of Rockmill Brewery officially won the auction for the Lancaster brewery. They had been operating it for the past several months while trying to purchase it before it went to auction.
  • Speaking of brewery expansions, Business First reported last week that Hoof Hearted Brewing plans to take over the former Brothers Drake Meadery bar at 25 E. Fifth Ave. in the Short North. Brothers Drake recently left the space to consolidate the bar with its production facility in Grandview.
  • Meanwhile, Goodwood Brewing closed in the Arena District.
  • Multiple outlets reported that Habaneros Mexican Grill plans to open a fifth location, this one inside the former Old Bag of Nails pub at 4416 N. High St. in Clintonville.
  • The owners of New Grounds Coffeehouse in Hilliard announced that they’re opening a location at 135 E. Main St. in Plain City sometime this spring.
  • The owners of Honey Cup Coffee announced that they have closed up their shop inside the Rambling House while they search for a new location.
  • And finally, Mardi Gras Homemade Ice Cream has opened for the season! Find the shop at 1947 Hard Rd.
