Friday Food Bites: Sunflower Chinese Restaurant and Hoagie City close, Prohibition gets new owners

January 3, 2025

There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:

  • Danny Chung, owner of Sunflower Chinese Restaurant in Dublin, announced that New Year’s Day was their last day in business. Chung cited the desire to retire and spend more time with family as the reason for the closure. Sunflower opened in a strip mall off Sawmill Road in 1986, and was known especially for their dim sum.
  • The owner of Hoagie City in Hilliard also announced that they have closed, citing rising food costs and inconsistent sales. Hoagie City opened in the fall of 2021.
  • Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. teased that it’s adding a third central Ohio location, this one on Sawmill Road in Dublin. It joins locations in Hilliard and in Lewis Center.
  • The owners of Prohibition Gastro Lounge in Powell announced that as of Jan. 1 the place is under new ownership. They said they’ve sold to another local company who will continue operating it as a similar concept. Prohibition first opened more than 11 years ago.
  • Black Kahawa, which recently opened its full-service coffee shop at Broad and High downtown, has expanded its hours and offerings to full bar service, including cocktails and beers on tap. The shop will remain open until 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and midnight on Thursdays through Saturdays.
  • Winans Coffee & Chocolate announced that it will be opening a Marysville location at 132 Emmaus Rd. this year.
