There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest news:
- After an extended closure for renovations, new ownership re-opens the Chef-O-Nette in Upper Arlington today – Friday, June 20. Located at 2090 Tremont Center, the local institution first opened in 1955 and was run by Harlan Howard, who took it over from his father. (Fun fact: Chef-O-Nette has claimed to be the first drive-through in the country.) Howard sold it to the owners of Old Bag of Nails last year, and they’ve spent the intervening time updating the space. To see an older look of it, read my 2013 post on it!
- The long-time owners of Marino’s Seafood Fish & Chips announced they are retiring after 32 years and will be closing up shop. An exact closing date hasn’t been announced, although they said late June or early July. The fried seafood shop was once an Arthur Treacher’s location, and ironically, the chain will make its return to central Ohio by once again taking over the storefront after Marino’s ends its run!
- Downtown Columbus is welcoming a pair of new businesses as part of its Ground Floor Growth program (the same one that welcomed Three Bites and Black Kahawa downtown). First off, Dos Hermanos Tacos will open a new location at 16 N. High St. Second, Toro Meat Market will open a grocery store and market at 150 E. Gay St. on the ground floor of the recently renovated Continental building, which is just beginning to welcome residents to its new apartments. Exact opening dates for the two new businesses haven’t been announced yet.
- Mecca Beverage House celebrated its grand opening at 745 Taylor Ave. (former site of Pretentious Barrel House). The collective is home to a variety of Black-owned businesses that are sharing the production space and taproom, including Dafuque Beer Company.
- Somewhere in Particular Brewing on the Northwest side has been transformed into Counterbalance Brewing, with an updated space, new beers, new branding, and more. It soft opened yesterday.
- 614 Bar & Grill soft opened last week in former Little Palace space, at 240 S. Fourth St. downtown.
- Halal Bites 614 has opened at 1479 Worthington Rd. just south of Ohio State’s campus.
- The Feast Buffet, which offers hibachi, seafood, sushi, and more has soft opened at 2620 Bethel Rd. on the Northwest Side.
