If you haven’t read our adventures in Athens, you can check them out here and here. We were shown the city by the folks from Visit Athens, and we were able to do so much in one day because we were powered by coffee. Good coffee. For many folks from Athens, that means Donkey Coffee.
Donkey Coffee topped the list of suggested places to stop, based on ideas from friends. It seems to be one of the old school, “second wave” coffee shops that first cropped up in the 1990’s. These shops serve great coffee, but they’re even better as comfortable spaces for studying, meeting, writing, or catching small concerts and performances.
As we were on our way to breakfast, we didn’t pick up any snacks, but Donkey Coffee has a case full of them.
It’s a good crew at Donkey Coffee. Clearly they know their coffee well.
We choose two of our stand-bys: a cappuccino for Mrs. Bfast w/Nick and a cubano for me. Both excellent.
Beans.
The back room of the coffee shop is a small concert venue. Seems like a great space to see a show.
The coffee shop includes the upstairs of the building.
There’s room after room for studying and working, including a small patio on the front corner of the building.
It’s very easy to see why Donkey Coffee is a favorite in Athens. It’s a great community space, serving terrific coffee right in the center of town.
(This trip was provided for and hosted by the Athens County Visitors Bureau. Opinions are my own.)
