Three To Try: New Brunches

March 3, 2017

Every week I write the Food News column for Columbus Alive (like this week’s), and every week I’m amazed at the number of restaurant openings. When people ask if I’ll ever run out of places to write about, the answer is a solid ‘never.’ I can barely keep up with all the new breakfasts and brunches, like these three:

1. Biscuit & Branch – Biscuit & Branch is new to Short North, having been built out in a long-empty space. They serve a Southern breakfast all day, featuring plenty of biscuits and gravy, French toast, grits, and other hearty dishes.

2. Rooks Tavern – It’d be an oversimplification to say that Rooks does barbecue. They do, but it’s more like the art of the smoke. They don’t just serve plates of ribs and pulled pork. Their brunch menu features items like smoked trout, pit-style chili over scrambled eggs, or pancakes with smoked cream, berries, and maple syrup.

3. Freaks + Leeks at Platform – Freaks + Leeks (awesome name) is a new vegan brunch pop-up. They’ll be at Platform Beer Co. every Sunday in March starting this week, from 10a-2p. Great chance to sample an interesting brunch menu and check out Platform’s space. Try the Warrah or Baby Got Blanch double IPAs if they’re on tap.
