There’s a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world – here’s the latest!

  • After 14 years, The Fish Guys has left the North Market, citing losses due to the coronavirus shutdowns. But the North Market announced this week that Coastal Local Seafood, a seafood purveyor offering delivered bundles and supplying local restaurants, would take over the stand starting today, Sept. 11. This is in addition to Coastal Local’s forthcoming stand at North Market Bridge Park.
  • Cleveland-based build-your-own taco joint Barrio opened its first Columbus location this week, in the old Winking Lizard at 1416 W. Fifth Ave.
  • Shrimp Hut holds its grand opening this Saturday, Sept. 12 at 516 S. Yearling Rd. in Whitehall.
  • The plant-based Seitan’s Realm food truck shared a couple weeks back that they’re taking over the old A Common Table space, at 3496 N. High St. in Clintonville. An opening date has not been announced yet.
  • The new owners of The Sycamore, Good Food Restaurants, announced that it would return sometime in early 2021.
  • A new location of CoreLife Eatery opens at 6195 Sawmill Rd. in Dublin on Saturday, Sept. 12. This is the third location in central Ohio.
  • A location of LemonShark Poké & Makai Grill is coming to 3969 Merchant’s Row at Easton this fall.

And for some events and specials:

  • On Saturday, Sept. 12, TeeJaye’s Country Place celebrates its 50th anniversary by rolling back the price of its signature Barnyard Buster to $2.99. If you dine there that day between 6 a.m. and close, you can register to win free Barnyard Busters for a year. More info here.
  • Schmidt’s Sausage Haus has teamed up with Graeter’s to create a new flavor of cream puff: black raspberry chip. packages through Sept. 30. While in-person Oktoberfest celebrations have been canceled, they’re offering Oktoberfest in a Box, with bratwurst, mustard, sauerkraut, jumbo pretzel, beer steins, Oktoberfest pin, Hofbräuhaus beads and a beer opener.
  • The next Artisan Pop-up Grocery event at the POP retail incubator shop is this Sunday, Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors include Seaworthy Bread, Oat Milk, Charlotte & Olivia’s Sublime Ice Creams, Conservation Coffee, and others. Find the shop at 44 N. High St. downtown.
  • 614’s Restaurant Week returns Sept. 14-19, during which 100+ restaurants will be doing prix fixe three-course meals.
  • In lieu of an in-person event, the Columbus Coffee Festival returns this year as a Curated Take Home Experience Box. The box includes coffee samples, a mug, snacks, and a guidebook to featured roasters.
