5 Restaurants to Try This Month: July 2022

July 6, 2022

Want to support local restaurants? Curious about new openings or under-the-radar finds? Here are five restaurants I’m suggesting you try this month!

1. Ohio Brewing Company

Cuyahoga Falls-based Ohio Brewing Company opened their huge Columbus taproom, restaurant, and brewing facility at the end of April. It makes its home in a former warehouse space in Milo-Grogan, with a size-able seating area and loads of Ohio-centric decor. Pair their house beers or cocktails with a full pub menu.

2. Alebrijes

Alebrijes food truck in the King-Lincoln Bronzeville district continues the heritage of its predecessor, Los Potosinos. Their menu features tacos, tortas, quesadillas, burritos, as well as plates laden with steak, pork chops, fish. Their signature – like Los Potosinos before them – is tender, juicy, crispy-skinned pollo al carbon.

3. Subourbon Southern Kitchen & Spirits

Subourbon is one of our newest entries, a Southern-inspired restaurant and whiskey bar in Linworth, brought to us by the owners of Alqueria in Victorian Village. It features creative interpretations of Southern classics – chicken fried chicken, okra and catfish, fried green tomatoes – paired with a solid bar service and handsome whiskey menu.

4. The Lox Bagel Shop

The Lox Bagel Shop is a proven winner time and time again. They craft their own bagels in-house, a hybrid New York/Montreal style, then layer carefully prepared ingredients like tender pastrami, lox, roast pork, egg salad, fried cauliflower. You can’t go wrong with stand-bys like the Cuban, vegan lox, or Southwest sandwich, but keep an eye out for their rotating specials, too.

Columbus, OH 43215

5. Wizard of Za

The Wizard of Za got its start as an underground, Instagram-only pizza pop-up with a long waiting list, but now has grown to a fully-fledged pizzeria connected to the Clintonville Fusian. Spencer Saylor and his team dish up giant Scilian-style pies, sandwiches like meatball or eggplant or chicken pesto, and more.
