The Best Coffee Shops in Downtown Columbus

Whether you’re working, visiting, or living there, here are the best coffee shops in downtown Columbus!

Brioso Coffee (Gay & High Street)

Overview: Brioso is one of Columbus’ longer-running roasters, opening first in 2001. In 2020 moved their original location catty corner to the southwest corner of Gay and High. From there they continue their winning streak of great espresso, pour overs, lattes, and more. Try the Ohio maple latte!

Cure Coffee & Cocktails

Overview: Cure Coffee & Cocktails brings together the best of both worlds, serving as a coffee shop throughout the day before transitioning to a full bar with events in the later hours. It’s a beautiful space with plenty of room to kick back; they serve locally roasted Upper Cup Coffee.

Roosevelt Coffeehouse

Overview: The Roosevelt Coffeehouse is a favorite community gathering space. The coffee shop uses its profits to support initiatives that provide clean drinking water, fight hunger, and combat human trafficking.

Three Bites Bakery + Little Cat

Overview: Three Bites Bakery brought its amazing selection of Filipino- and Italian-inspired pastries together under one roof with Little Cat, so now you can snag coffee and boba tea to go with your ube pandesal and mushroom and leek croissants.

Brioso Coffee (Long Street)

Overview: In addition to their Gay and High Street location, Brioso features a full coffee bar as part of its roastery on East Long Street. It’s a quiet spot to sip espresso, study or read, get some work done. This is my regular stop when I’m working downtown!

One Line Coffee

Overview: One Line Coffee, which has shops in the Short North and Franklinton, operates a small coffee bar on the ground level of the Huntington Center, on Capitol Square. It’s the ideal place for a morning or mid-day cappuccino and a snack.

Cafe de Nook

Overview: Originally starting as Hemingway’s Coffee Nook, Cafe de Nook lives up to its name as a cozy, Parisian cafe. Grab a good book and curl up in a corner with a latte and a sweet treat. Find the nook on the ground floor of the 175 on the Park building, sitting on the east side of the Columbus Commons.

Qahwah House

Overview: Qahwah House is a Yemeni coffee shop that features traditional drinks and pastries alongside a classic Italian espresso bar. Their storefront is bright and spacious, with plenty of room for studying or hanging out.

Morning Ritual at The Goat

Overview: The Goat is the in-house bar/restaurant/coffee shop for the Lifestyle Communities development at RiverSouth, and Morning Ritual is their coffee bar. You can order chai, a cappuccino, a mocha, you name it – to go with breakfast sandwiches, scrambles, pastries.

Freedom a la Cart

Overview: Freedom a la Cart is a social enterprise that seeks to employ and empower survivors of human trafficking. The downtown cafe is an extension of their catering business, and along with terrific scratch-made baked goods, sandwiches, and salads, they have a full menu of hot and iced coffee, espresso, and tea.

Black Kahawa

Overview: Black Kahawa has a prime location on the northeast corner of Broad and High streets downtown. Owner Doug Buckley roasts exclusively East African beans on-site, and serves a full range of espresso, brewed coffee, and cold brew. And in the evenings you can stop by for an espresso martini! During the day, I’m especially partial to their cold brew with house-made Zanzibar spice.

The Woodbury

Overview: The Woodbury is a modern diner in downtown Columbus, serving a very eclectic breakfast menu (chicken hotcake tacos? French toast casserole? candied bacon crepes?). On top of that, they feature a full coffee bar using Upper Cup coffee.

Bottoms Up Coffee

Overview: Bottoms Up moved from their original Franklinton location to the ground floor of The View on Grant (where Stauf’s used to be). It’s a beautiful, two-level space with lots of natural light and a small patio.
