Friday Food Bites: Dos Hermanos joins Easton, Hot Chicken opens in Grandview, Daily Growler celebrates 10 years

December 16, 2022

There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:

  • Dos Hermanos Tacos will open its new Easton store at 3946 Morse Crossing on Monday, Dec. 19. Located in the former Edamame space, the new storefront features a full liquor license. It joins Dos Hermanos’ original food truck and stalls at both North Market locations.
  • Hot Chicken Takeover opens its newest store today, Friday, Dec. 16. It takes over the former Sweet Carrot/Rife’s Market space at 1417 Grandview Ave. This marks its sixth location in Central Ohio and its seventh overall.
  • Today The Daily Growler turns 10 years old! To celebrate the occasion at its first store (2812 Fishinger Rd. in Upper Arlington), they’re hosting food trucks, selling merch, featuring guest bartenders and special beer tappings, and more. They’ve also collaborated with Columbus Brewing Company on a special IPA brewed just for the occasion. Find more details here.
  • Business First broke the news this week that North High Brewing will close its original Short North taproom at the end of the year. This comes amidst major expansion for the brewery elsewhere, like a forthcoming taproom in Westerville.
  • Multiple sources have reported that Saddleberk has closed its stall in the North Market Downtown, citing the need to focus on their North Market Bridge Park shop.
  • Royal Flamingo Coffee will post a pop-up open house at its roastery this Saturday, Dec. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1517 Hess St. in Grandview.
  • Last weekend Portia’s Diner re-emerged as a plant-based pizza truck. The diner, a companion to Portia’s Cafe in Clintonville, closed this past summer. The cafe itself remains open.
  • Hashi in Granville announced last week that it has closed. The closure was followed by a little online drama in which a former employee took over the Instagram feed and posted a message criticizing the owners.
  • 614 shared this week that a new Korean fried chicken chain called bb.q chicken is set to open its first Columbus location sometime next week. It will be located at 17 E. Lane Ave. near campus.
