Block’s former location on East Broad Street
There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:
- Block’s Bagels announced last week that it would be closing up its last remaining store at 6115 McNaughten Road on Sunday, March 2. The Block family was amongst the first to bring true New York-style bagels to central Ohio in the late 1960s. The business has undergone a number of changes over recent years, including the sale and renaming of part of the business into what become Fox’s Bagels & Deli. Founder Hal Block also recently passed away. In a post on Facebook, the family said they hope to continue the Block’s tradition in some form.
- Also this week, the owners of Happy Greek in the Short North announced that the restaurant will close after business this Saturday, Feb. 15. The Greek restaurant has been a staple of the Short North for more than 20 years.
- And even more closings, sadly! The owners of the Grill & Skillet diner on East Main Street announced that they will be closing after business on Sunday, March 2.
- Pho Chef opened a second location this week at 1186 Kenny Centre Mall. It joins a location at 3540 W. Granville Rd. in Dublin.
- Napa Kitchen & Bar opened its third location, this one at 4055 The Strand W at Easton. It joins locations already open in Westerville and Dublin.
- And OX-B’s has moved into its new location in Newark at 917 N. 21st St.
- After a brief hiatus, Rose Dough Donuts is returning, with their next round of pre-orders opening up on Monday, Feb. 17.
- Rooster’s opens its newest location at 4850 Morse Rd. in Gahanna on Thursday, Feb. 20.
