Under the Big Sky at the Chalets in Hocking Hills Lodge

July 20, 2026

When it comes to Ohio’s Hocking Hills region, there’s no shortage of great places to stay, whether its cabins or Scottish cottages, yurts to hobbit holes – but we may have found a new favorite with the Chalets in Hocking Hills.

The Chalets owns more than 50 properties around the area, from cabins to A-frames to lodges. As a post-school year treat, we got to stay in their Big Sky Lodge, which ultimately sleeps up to 18 people!

The lodge features a big common area, with a TV, fireplace, full dining room…

…and a full kitchen, of course!

The accommodations include a mix of king beds, bunk rooms, and twins between two floors.

The real selling point of Big Sky is its placement on the top of a hill – with a pool! You’re provided with elevated views while you enjoy a swim.

And you get to enjoy the sunset while you relax in the hot tub.

I appreciated the big porch facing the pool and the hillside.

There’s a small firepit where you can end the day. You can pre-order firewood and a s’mores kit with your stay!

And I can attest that the porch is the ideal spot to start the morning with coffee and a good book.

We love cooking breakfast as a family when we stay in a cabin. We’ll usually load up the ingredients to make our version of a full English breakfast (with proper bangers we pick up at Jungle Jim’s!).

And who doesn’t love a classic of eggs, hash browns, sausage, and toast?

We’re definitely adding Chalets to our list of favorite stays in Hocking Hills!

Bonus: check out my video highlighting our stay at Big Sky combined with stops on the Ohio Ice Cream Trail and a visit to the world’s largest bounce house!
