Friday Food Bites: Cafe Stai Manso opening storefront, The BeckFast Place coming to old Skillet space

August 6, 2026

Happy Friday! Here’s the latest Columbus restaurant news:

  • The owners of the Cafe Stai Manso coffee trailer announced that they’re planning a brick and mortar space nearby, at 243 N. Fifth St. in the Warehouse District. The trailer opened up earlier this year just outside Ebb & Float in the neighborhood.
  • A new breakfast spot called The BeckFast Place is coming soon to the old Skillet space, at 410 E. Whittier St. German Village/Schumacher Place. Skillet closed last February after about 17 years in business.
  • Gatto’s Pizza in Clintonville opened a second location last weekend, in Hoof Hearted Brewing’s Five Avenue brewpub. Gatto’s has been serving up pies since 1952, originally on High Street before taking over the former Wildflower Cafe space on Indianola in 2022.
  • The owners of Marino’s Fish & Chips in Grandview announced that they are retiring and turning over the long-running seafood spot to new owners. Last summer they attempted to retire and sell the building to Arthur Treacher’s, but that deal fell through and they re-opened a month later.

Some great culinary events:

  • The inaugural Columbus Cocktail Festival is this Saturday, Aug. 8 at Land-Grant Brewing. The event features two “seatings,” one at noon and one at 4 p.m., and features more than a dozen local bars and restaurants serving featured cocktails.
  • Uptown Untapped in Westerville is also this Saturday, Aug. 8, from 6-10 p.m. You can stroll Uptown Westerville and sample beers from more than 20 different breweries.
  • The Worthington location of Rusty Bucket is doing a 90s-themed pop-up called Saved by the Bucket through Aug. 30. It features special cocktails and menu items, 90s decor, and more.
  • Tickets are now on sale for the Worthington Partnership’s 2026 Market to Table dinner on Wednesday, September 9. It features a coursed meal from local chefs using ingredients from the farmers market.
  • Tickets are also on sale for the inaugural Wine & Harvest Evening from the Dominican Sisters of Peace, held on Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Shepherd’s Corner Ecology Center. It’s an evening of organic wines and locally sourced dishes.
