Happy Friday! Here’s the latest Columbus restaurant news:
- A new bagel shop called Anything Bagel debuts today – Friday, Aug. 14 – at 6115 McNaughten Center on the east side. Long-time locals will remember that as the last Block’s Bagel location, before it briefly became Marx Bagels and then closed. The owners of Anything Bagel are using the original Block’s recipes for their bagel shop. Block’s first opened in 1967, and was one of the first places to bring New York-style bagels to central Ohio. It closed in early 2025 after the passing of its founder, Hal Block. Former Block’s locations on East Broad Street and in North Market were sold and renamed Fox’s Bagels & Deli. (Get a look at one of Block’s former locations here.)
- A new cocktail bar call Let Me Roll It also debuts today, Aug. 14, at 132 E. Fifth Ave. in Weinland Park. It features a cool mid-century design and a menu of classic and creative cocktails, beers, and wines.
- A new Filipino bakery called Manila Bakery recently opened 186 N. Wilson Rd., offering a full range of breads, pastries, cookies, and more.
- Espresso Air has soft opened its second location, this one at 34 S. Sandusky St. in Delaware. This joins their existing shop in Uptown Westerville.
- The Florida-base chain Beignets & Brew announced they’ll be joining the central Ohio market, with planned locations in Hilliard and in Westerville.
- The Columbus Food Truck Festival returns this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 14-15, at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Hilliard. More than 40 food trucks will be selling everything from barbecue to tacos, funnel cakes to pasta, lumpia to egg rolls.
- Next week, Aug. 17-24, is Columbus Taco Week. A number of local restaurants will be serving up taco specials; the week benefits the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.
