Friday Food Bites: March 22, 2019

March 22, 2019

There’s a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world – here’s the latest!

  • North Market announced its newest vendor will be Somali fast casual Hoyo’s Kitchen, taking the former space of Better Earth. (I’m personally very excited about this!)
  • Tony Tanner, owner of The Butcher & Grocer in Grandview, announced a new concept called The Old Spot, coming next door in the former Harvest Tavern space. The restaurant will be a partnership between Tanner and Rick and Krista Lopez, owners of La Tavola and Lupo.
  • The owner of Bodega announced the opening of Bristol Republic, a country music and bourbon bar at 1124 N. High St., former site of Basil. The place will serve barbecue from Smoked on High.
  • Red Door BBQ in Franklinton has two new locations on the way: one opening on Apr. 1 at 262 E. Lane Ave. by campus, and one opening later in April at 77 Lake St. in Delaware.
  • A cafe, burlesque joint, and speakeasy called Forty Deuce Cafe was announced for Easton’s upcoming development.
  • A new health-inspired restaurant called SOW Plated is coming soon to 1625 W. Lane Ave.
  • Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea announced a third location for central Ohio, coming to 15 E. Seventh Ave. near campus. This joins locations in Dublin’s Bridge Park and near Polaris.
  • Freshbox Catering announced last week that it would cease operations.
  • After 32 years in business, China Dynasty at 1689 W. Lane Ave. in Upper Arlington announced they close after Mother’s Day this year.
  • 1400 Food Lab hosts a paella dinner with Pibil Columbus next week Wednesday, March 27 – National Paella Day!
